Top five football screamers

Cristiano Ronaldo said his long-range screamer against Porto on Wednesday was the best goal he had ever scored.

But how does Ronnie's rocket compare with these other unbelievable strikes?

Radford v Newcastle

The most famous 'rocket' of all time. Ronnie Radford's blistering strike despite the swamp-like conditions set Hereford on their way to a famous FA Cup upset against Newcasle back in 1975.

Josimar v N Ireland

Brazil certainly had their fair share of stars in the 1986 World Cup but it was more a case of Josi-who until this pearler against Pat Jennings.

Haan v Italy

The brilliant 1978 Holland side lit up the World Cup in Argentina and this was probably the pick of their goals. In a 2-1 victory over Italy, Arie Haan scored arguably the greatest long-range goal in World Cup history with an effort from a ridiculously long way out.

Charlton v Mexico

A massive goal from Bobby which ultimately helped England on their way to World Cup glory. Sir Alf Ramsey's team were struggling to break down Mexico when Charlton picked up the ball on the half-way line, surged forward and unleashed a 30-yard rocket into the far corner.

Gerrard v Southampton

The Liverpool captain has a monopoly on long-range strikes but this one was a bit special even by his standards. Against Southampton back in 2001 this 35-yarder left Paul Jones without a chance.
